What is Adobe Illustrator?

Adobe Illustrator is developed and offered by Adobe Systems. It is vector graphics editing software and is currently in it’s seventeenth generation. The latest version was released in 2013. This software application can be used on both Mac and Windows operation systems so it is quite accessible for anyone who wants to use it.

What can I do with Illustrator?

Adobe Illustrator is a graphic driven software package that is primarily used for creating vector graphics. It was developed along side of Photoshop (also designed by Adobe Systems) as a companion product. Illustrator can be used for creating graphics, cartoons, logos as well as fonts for photo layouts from Photoshop.

There are different versions of the program from Adobe Illustrator CS to Illustrator CS5, which offers different levels of features. New features of the current versions include 3D applications and realistic brushes. You can use Adobe Illustrator for things like designing posters, creating brochures, enhancing images and of course creating logos. With Adobe Illustrator you can also create graphics and then export them to Photoshop for Design - Ilustrator - 2additional work.

The most basic tool in Illustrator is the Pen Tool. This tool allows you to draw a simple shape to designing a complex logo. The Shape tool can create perfect shapes such as ellipses, rounded rectangles, stars, triangles and rectangles. The Mesh tool is an interesting tool as it helps to make graphics more realistic by using gradients.

Why should I use Illustrator?

One great feature of Adobe Illustrator is the compatibility of Adobe Photoshop. You can start graphics in Illustrator and then use Photoshop to turn it into a finished product, such as a DVD. Another plus of Adobe Illustrator is the vector creating tools. Illustrator is considered one of the best software programs you can use when working with vectors as you can magnify the image as much as you’d like and the quality will remain the same.
